It is more than two months since the earthquake devastated Haiti. The aftershock of human suffering and disruption continues every day. I was reminded of this by a phone call this week from St. Marc. I was informed that the students there have not been able to return to a government-run school. Why? This government sponsored school building is filled with men, women and children who have moved in after migrating north from Port-au-Prince. These families have taken up temporary residence in the school building but it is still unclear how long their stay will be. Back here in the United States, we get back to our lives after getting tragic news reports from elsewhere. It's easy to forget that the trauma from the earthquake is a daily reality in Haiti.
I know that you share a concern for all the people in Haiti who have been harmed, injured, displaced and uprooted by the earthquake. Our Les Bons Samaritains school is operational but other students are still not able to return to class. If you can be generous, we can help those who now need help with shelter, food and clothing. Getting the people of Haiti back on their feet will take some time but it also will take some funding. Please consider helping now.
